What are the disadvantages of four-color printing machine

Four color printing is an economically and technically acceptable mode. It is a widely recognized printing method, and can also realize the reproduction of almost all colors. However, four color overprint also has many technical defects.

Although the image reproduction technology has been greatly improved in recent years, four color reproduction is still an unstable process, which requires too many factors to be controlled. What's more, it produces moire and dot gain in printing, resulting in the final image is either peaceful or the contrast is too large. In addition, with the four-color process, some visible colors cannot be copied.

Therefore, it is difficult to carry out consistent quality control for four-color printing. On the printing press, the color may shift for many times, even to the point of being unrecognizable. This is caused by many environmental and physical factors. The main factors are: the edge wear of the doctor blade, the temperature change of the printing machine, the screen tension change, and the inconsistent ink performance (pigment accumulation, viscosity and rheological property change).
The color reproduction effect depends on the color gamut range that the ink can print. From this point of view, four color printing also has great limitations.
